American Eagle Outfitters just opened their second store in the Santa Fe Mall of Mexico City, as part of their strategic plan to increase their presence in North America. The store in Santa Fe is located in the third biggest mall in Latin America. “We are going down the right path with our new growth strategy,” says Simon Nankervis, senior vice-president of American & Global Country Licensing. “We are planning on opening in total six more stores under the company’s property in order to boost the business in profit in the next upcoming years. We are excited for all the success we have received in Mexico. Ever since the launching, we have reached more than a million and a half friends on Facebook, the most we have ever received comparing to our other markets outside of the US. We have a great future in Mexico.”
AEO is planning on opening a series of owned stores and operated by the same companies in Mexico. Each AEO includes Aerie in form of “shop-in-shop” or in form of side to side. Banco Santander has launched “Forza, Santander’s Tribute to Scuderia Ferrari“, a song and video clip made from the characteristic sounds of Formula 1 cars, such as the engine or the wheel guns. The song is a tribute by the bank to Scuderia Ferrari and to their four years of partnership.
The song was composed by the Spanish musician and producer Carlos Jean, who went to Maranello with his team to record the sounds of the Ferrari factory. Just as the heart of a song is its melody, so the heart of a car is its engine. That is why the sound of the Ferrari engine provides the melody for this single, while wheel guns, tyre calibrators and car jacks provide the beat.
Carlos Jean recorded part of the song live at an institutional event staged by Banco Santander and the F1 team ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix. The Scuderia Ferrari official drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, the test drivers Marc Gené and Pedro de la Rosa, the Team Principal Stefano Domenicali, the engineers and mechanics took an active part in the recording.
The drivers, engineers, mechanics and other staff of Ferrari all valued and appreciated the creation of this song and video clip. Banco Santander has been an official sponsor of Scuderia Ferrari since the 2010 season and their partnership runs until the end of 2017.
Art Basel is delighted to announce a new global partnership with its long-term partner UBS. As Art Basel’s Lead Partner, UBS will support Art Basel on a global level and across its shows in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong. The multi-year agreement commences on May 28, 2013, and is a testament to both organizations’ shared aspiration of creating a global platform for the exchanges that drive the art world forward, and the development and promotion of the visual arts.
The announcement coincides with the 20th anniversary of the organizations’ partnership for the Basel show. In 2000, UBS extended its support to Unlimited, Art Basel’s unique exhibition platform for museum-quality artworks that transcend the traditional art fair stand, and in 2002 UBS became the founding partner of Art Basel’s show in Miami Beach.
From its second edition, UBS will become the Lead Partner of Art Basel in Hong Kong, which next year will take place from May 15 to 18, 2014 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
Sergio Ermotti, Group CEO UBS, said: ‘We are proud to be a global partner of Art Basel’s shows in Basel, Miami Beach and now in Hong Kong. We share a passion for art and have been actively supporting cultural and artistic endeavors across the world for many years. This new collaboration ideally complements our existing portfolio of sponsorships and underlines our ongoing commitment to supporting and promoting contemporary art.’
Two mountaineers have set a world record by being the first to use a mobile banking app on Mount Everest. Climbers Horacio Galanti , from Grande Prairie in Alberta, Canada, and Horacio Cunietti, of Mendoza, Argentina, achieved the feat using Standard Chartered Breeze mobile banking apps during their expedition to summit the highest peak in the world; an altitude of 8,848 metres above sea level.
Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay on 29 May 1953, the two Horacios are aiming to climb into the Guinness Book of World Records. In a series of firsts for banking, they have successfully traded shares with Breeze Trade and conducted funds transfers with Breeze Banking at various stages around the summit of Mount Everest.
These achievements come after they made history earlier in their journey with the world’s first stock trade for 50 Standard Chartered shares (2888.HK) at the Mount Everest South Base Camp at 5,364 metres using the Breeze Trade app. Apart from proving that with Standard Chartered Breeze, banking is possible anywhere and anytime, the duo are also serving an environmental purpose by helping in the restoration of Mount Everest by recovering debris left behind by other expeditions over the decades.
Breeze mobile banking apps were developed in Singapore and now they’ve reached the top of the world.
Morgan Stanley today announced the expansion of its longstanding partnership with Feeding America through a new $8 million commitment to its Fill the Plate program and an expanded employee volunteer initiative with the organization. Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity and partners with Morgan Stanley on a range of programs including:
Individualized awards to local food banks over the next four years, including grants given this spring to 27 food banks, tailored to best serve the child and family nutritional health needs in each community;
Financial support of cutting-edge research to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of child hunger-relief programs;
Continuing assistance for the National Produce program that helps bring fresh produce to families in need across the United States through a network of 61,000 Feeding America partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters; and
Continuing assistance for the BackPack program that provides free backpacks with food staples so children who usually receive reduced or free lunch at school can get the nutritious meals they need over weekends or long school breaks.
In this latest phase of Morgan Stanley’s Fill the Plate initiative, awards to local food banks will total more than $1 million each year for the next four years. The innovative design for this grant-giving allows individual food banks to select hunger-relief programs that most effectively match their local population and capabilities. The awards provide groundbreaking flexibility to Feeding America and its hunger-relief network of over 200 food banks nationwide.
“With more than 16 million children in the United States in danger of going hungry, we know that we can’t solve this issue alone,” said Bob Aiken, President and CEO of Feeding America. “This historic gift by Morgan Stanley shows the true commitment they have to help us fight hunger in all of our communities. We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with them in looking for ways to solve this problem.”
For 50 years, the Morgan Stanley Foundation has supported employee communities and innovations in pediatric health through initiatives such as its Global Alliance for Children’s Health. Through Fill the Plate, Morgan Stanley is dedicated to addressing food insecurity. Currently, one in five children in the U.S. does not have enough to eat, according to Feeding America’s 2010 Hunger Study.
